Locations

Lyndon Institute offers world-class programs in arts, sciences, technology, and athletics in a Vermont village setting. Founded in 1867, Lyndon Institute is a traditional "New England Academy," enrolling students from across the United States and the world.

Lyndon Institute is an independent day and boarding college preparatory and general academic school for grades 9 -12. Lyndon Institute is situated on 150 acres in the historic village of Lyndon Center, deep in the beautiful northeastern part of Vermont, 175 miles north of Boston. The campus is 5 kilometers from Burke Mountain Ski Area, a renowned ski racing and recreational snow sports resort.

Lyndon Institute’s 27 buildings include networked classrooms, science laboratories, a library/multi-media center, an auditorium which seats 650, a 250-seat dining hall, 2 full gymnasiums, and extensive sports facilities.

With an enrollment of approximately 600 students, Lyndon Institute is large enough to offer a comprehensive education, but small enough to involve each student meaningfully in school life. Students can choose from four programs of study: college preparatory, fine arts, business or technical education. Over 40 extracurricular activities are available, including 14 sports.

Lyndon is all about giving our students access to a wide array of learning possibilities in a safe, supportive educational environment. Students can choose opportunities from biology to bridge building, forensics to football, select chorus to Spanish and many more opportunities.

Whether a student is getting hands-on experience in the classroom, in the workshop, on the playing fields or in extracurricular activities, we think that putting skills to work is a great way to learn.

The Fine and Performing arts

Lyndon Institute is 1 of the few high schools in Vermont that offers a complete Fine and Performing Arts department. The department includes full course loads in each discipline: fine and graphic arts, theater, instrumental and vocal music, and dance. Students can choose from a range of classes in each of the disciplines ranging from introduction to art, photography, bookmaking, printmaking, AP level art classes, and painting; acting, introduction and techniques in dance, jazz and lyrical ballet, dance history and improvisation/composition to dance company, plus concert and jazz band to chorus and select chorus.

The Fine and Performing Arts teachers instruct to the whole student – physical, cognitive, social, and emotional being – and meets each student at their individual needs and learning styles. Our instruction is current in our field and is designed specifically to prepare the students for the arts beyond high school with relevant experiences, professional trips and guests, and a multitude of opportunities to showcase and share work.

Academics at Lyndon Institute

Lyndon Institute is an academic community providing students with excellent preparation for success in school, college, careers, and life. The teachers and administrators of Lyndon Institute believe that learning is a process which continues throughout life, and that formal education should provide a sound basis for later development. We recognize that student interest and motivation are vital to educational success and therefore, school should be both a challenging and enjoyable experience for all concerned.

We believe that the primary obligation of the school is to help the student to discover academic, artistic, technological, and athletic aptitudes; to encourage the development of goals appropriate to such aptitude; and to aid in developing the goals for the betterment of one's self and one's community.

Athletics

While academics are our primary concern, Lyndon Institute recognizes that athletics provide additional opportunities and challenges for personal growth and development. Through competition, students learn the value of discipline and respect for rules. Athletics become a model for good citizenship. At Lyndon Institute, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer a wide range of athletic opportunities. Twenty varsity level sports are complimented by an additional 12 sub-varsity level teams. Student athletes of all abilities are encouraged to participate.
