Storm King School, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, Offers Four Exciting Trips This Year

In an effort to support our mission of preparing students for college life and beyond, educators at The Storm King School have instituted approaches to learning that are proven to add depth and breadth to our secondary school curriculum. These include interdisciplinary courses, experiential education, project-based learning, and a student-centered approach in the classroom. Another facet of the overall Storm King experience is the School’s diverse travel opportunities. For the 2018-2019 school year, Storm King is pleased to announce four national and international trips being offered to our students – the Florida Everglades, the Galapagos Islands, and two ski trips.

Each year, Storm King students are offered several trips to interesting and exotic destinations within the United States and abroad. While they complement the School’s academic curriculum and community service program, these trips serve to add yet another dimension to Storm King’s already vibrant student life. In past years, Storm King students have broadened their horizons, experienced different cultures, and learned about the natural world through trips to Peru, Fiji, Cuba, the Galapagos Islands, New York City, Boston, the Adirondacks, and many others.

Upcoming trips for the 2018-2019 school year:

The Florida Everglades (November 16 – 23, 2018)
Using both a scientific and historical lens, students will embark on an adventure to one of the country’s most unique and captivating gems – The Everglades in Florida! With visits to cultural landmarks, protected animal sanctuaries and more, students will kayak, hike, drive, canoe, and even airboat through Florida’s majestic, and often unseen, Everglades landscape.

Andean Adventure: Galapagos Islands (Spring Break 2019)
Students will travel to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands for a 10-day hands-on expedition that combines wildlife observation, field-based conservation, and analysis of human footprints and sustainability in these fragile ecosystems. They will snorkel with sea lions, hike to Tortuga Bay and walk among pre-historic-looking giant Galapagos tortoises as they visit Quito, Ecuador’s equator, San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, and the Isabela Islands in the Galapagos.

Skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado (March 3-6, 2019)
Students can ski and snowboard on some of the best snow in the West in beautiful Breckenridge, CO. With five peaks, a real mountain town, and the highest chairlift in North America, spirits will be as elevated as the views. Students will stay in rustic mountain condominiums (each is 3 bedrooms and 3 baths) and have the luxury of skiing back to their unit and walking to the Snowflake Chairlift right across the street. They will also have the chance to explore Breckenridge town.

Skiing in Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont (February 1 – 4, 2019)
SKS’ winter ski trip to Smugglers’ Notch, VT has become a yearly tradition and is one of the most popular trips of the year. 35 to 45 will students travel to the Smugglers’ Notch Resort, chosen as the #1 overall resort in the Eastern USA and Canada in 2018.
